With 4 sporting divisions (Netball, Cricket, Little Athletics and Soccer), over 1500 registered players, and each sporting division boasting their own committee, the Rouse Hill Rams has evolved from an idea at a local pub, into a unique sporting model not seen anywhere in Australia.
Orion has sponsored the Sports Club since inception in 2006, and along with a handful of genuine sports mad Dads and Mums, have helped shape its dynamic setup into a recognisable sporting service provider within the Hills community.
The former Rams website built by Orion was attracting over 1400 unique visitors a week. It was covering sporting results, weather reports, field closures, news items, match reports plus loads more. When we sat down to discuss the old site with the view of an overhaul, we found that the personal time constraints involved in each of the committees, and their coaches populating multiple sections of the site was starting to taper off. A common occurance considering after all, coaches and managers of sporting sides are just like you and I, flat strap just being a Mum or Dad and living your life! Let alone having the time to write lengthy reports on their local Under 6 soccer side.
So we set about find a means to end the extra work. Plus, considering the impact social network forums has had on not only our youth but most of us, we put forth the idea to build the new site around a stable blog specialist content management engine called WordPress. And then directed the draws and results to each of the sports governing bodies. Saving the double handling.
Each sports division still has their own subsite. Via the WordPress engine, each sporting committee can still create individual teams and limit access to those teams to each individual coach/manager…perfect. The coach can baste his team in praise and glory without being able to see or edit any other area or team. And of course the committee can oversee all entries and also add their own into the preset categories of News, Events, Urgent, Pages, Documents and FAQs. The site also has a direct subscriber capture that links in with the monthly newsletter sent out. Orion also oversees the advertising artwork and branding for the Club and all hosting/domain registrations associated with the site. If you’re interested in something like this for your local sports Club drop Orion a line.
